Abstract
There are more than 50 metals, and an enormous number of naturally occurring and man-made alloys and metal compounds. A few metals — foremost ions and compounds of nickel, chromium and cobalt — belong to the most important contact allergens causing allergic contact dermatitis in a large proportion of the general population, as well as in large occupational groups.
