Abstract

Rectovaginal fistulas are located above the dentate line and should therefore be distinguished from anovagi-nal fistulas. These lesions are rare and account for less than 5% of all anorectal fistulas. They result in very severe and distressing vaginal symptoms which vary according to the underlying disease: fecal soiling and smell; discharge; vaginitis; passage of flatus and even feces, especially during diarrhea; discharge of mucus or blood.
