Zusammenfassung
Trotz zunehmender Erfolge in der intensivmedizinischen Betreuung von Neugeborenen bleiben septische Infektionen auch weiterhin eine nicht zu unterschätzende Realität. Diese Erkenntnis ergibt sich aus zahlreichen klinischen Untersuchungen, die deutlich werden lassen, daß die Häufigkeit systemischer bakterieller Infektionen bei Neugeborenen in den letzten Jahren konstant geblieben, wenn nicht sogar angestiegen sind [3, 11, 28]. Das durch die Intensivmedizin zunehmend möglich gewordene Überleben von v. a. Frühgeborenen mit einem Geburtsgewicht von < 1500 g hat nosokomiale Infektionen stark in den Vordergrund treten lassen. So scheint eine inverse Beziehung zwischen dem Geburtsgewicht und dem Risiko einer nosokomialen Infektion zu bestehen [15]: 9% der Neugeborenen > 2500 g entwickelten eine Infektion gegenüber 46% der Kinder mit einem Geburtsgewicht < 1000 g. Goldman et al. [12] schätzen, daß das Risiko, an einer nosokomialen Infektion zu erkranken, mit der Abnahme von je 500 g des Geburtsgewichtes um 3% ansteigt.
