Zusammenfassung

Die postoperative Gelenkinfektion ist in Anbetracht der hohen Zahl an Eingriffen an der Schulter eine seltene Komplikation. Für den Betroffenen ist sie jedoch eine ernste, ja möglicherweise vital bedrohliche Situation. Neben postoperativen Eiterungen finden sich im Bereich der Schulter auch hämatogene und punktionsbedingte Infekte. Sie alle bedürfen nach der Diagnosestellung einer unverzüglichen operativen Intervention. Der Eingriff gilt als dringlicher Notfall, muss also innerhalb der nächsten Stunden vorgenommen werden. Er duldet keinen Aufschub bis zum nächsten Tag.
