Zusammenfassung
Die von der Skapula zum Humeruskopf ziehenden Muskeln bilden an ihrem Ansatz eine Sehnenhaube aus, die den Humeruskopf ventral, dorsal und kranial umfasst und in die Pfanne zentriert. Diese Sehnenmanschette wird wegen ihrer Bedeutung für die aktiven Schulterbewegungen als Rotatorenmanschette bezeichnet und von vorne nach hinten in 3 Zonen eingeteilt [11]:

Zone A:
Subskapularis (SCP) und lange Bizepssehne (LBS)

Zone B:
Supraspinatus (SSP)

Zone C:
Infraspinatus (ISP) und Teres minor
Aus funktionellen Gründen wird auch die intraartikuläre Portion der langen Bizepssehne zur Rotatorenmanschette gerechnet, obwohl der zugehörige Muskel zum Oberarm und nicht zur Skapula gehört. Die Bizepssehne verläuft im Zentrum der schwächsten Stelle der Rotatorenmanschette, dem Rotatorenintervall (RI), das zwischen SCP und SSP liegt.
