Abstract

A log-log plot of experimental data has the wonderful property of displaying, more often than not, a portion of a straight line. However, there is a widely spread tendency to look for simple, ideal situations; one often interprets a straight line as a scaling law reflecting an important information. We want to stress, on a curious example, how deeply misleading this quest for simple interpretation can be.
