The Use of Taper Light Beam for Object Recognition
A recognition procedure with a taper light beam is presented. The method employs a vertical projector which projects a taper light beam on the objects where it produces an elliptical or circular bright area. A picture is then taken by a TV camera. Features of the objects such as the distance to each point, and the angle between the surfaces and the light beam can be obtained by means of trigonometrical computations. The recognition procedure is free from the effects of the arrangement and shadows of objects, and the measurement of parameters concerned is more precise. The mathematical aspects of the method are given.
