Abstract

In the context of the theory of general relativity, the universe as a whole — the subject of cosmology — is not a collection of individual, separable ‘things’, interacting with each other at distances over vast domains of space. Rather, the universe is a continuous whole, with an infinite number of distinguishable manifestations (modes).
