Zusammenfassung

Der Begriff „primäre Fibromyalgie“ (FMA) kennzeichnet ein nichtentzündliches generalisiertes Schmerzsyndrom im Bereich der Muskeln und des straffen Bindegewebes. Der auch heute noch häufig synonym benutzte Ausdruck “Fibrositis”, der 1904 von Gowers für entzündliche Veränderungen im fibrösen Gewebe der Muskeln, Nerven und Gelenkkapseln geprägt wurde, erscheint aufgrund des definitionsgemäßen Fehlens entzündlicher Veränderungen obsolet. Gleichfalls als Synonym wurde von Labhardt u. Müller (1976) im deutschsprachigen Raum der Begriff “generalisierte Tendomyopathie” geprägt, die sie als “psychosomatisch bedingtes weichteilrheumatisches Krankheitsbild im engeren Sinne” auffassen.
