Zusammenfassung
Der Sammelbegriff chronisch obstruktive Atemwegserkrankung (COPD) umfaßt irreversibel fortgeschrittene Stadien der chronischen Bronchitis, des Asthmas und das Lungenemphysem. Die Atemwege sind irreversibel verengt, deformiert oder instabil. Atemwegsobstruktion und Überblähung sind, trotz Therapie über Monate, nicht mehr oder nur noch teilweise rückgängig zu machen. Patienten mit einer COPD können hyperreagibel sein; deren Hyperreagibilität ist jedoch selten sehr ausgeprägt und der Atemwegswiderstand läßt sich im Akutversuch mit Bronchodilatatoren nur gering beeinflussen.
