Zusammenfassung

Asbest wird und wurde wegen einer Reihe von wichtigen Eigenschaften verarbeitet. Gebraucht wird es wegen der Feuerresistenz, der geringen Hitze-, Elektrizität- und Schalleitung. Verarbeitet wird es zur Isolation (Verkleidung, Verschalung, z. B. Schiffsbau, Großbauten, Kessel-, und Leitungsbau), als Asbestzement wurde es in der Bauindustrie verwandt sowie in der Reibebelagindustrie (früher Bremsen, heute noch Kupplungen).
