Zusammenfassung

In Deutschland ereigneten sich im Jahr 2001 über 2,3 Mio. Verkehrsunfälle mit fast einer halben Million Unfallverletzten (Statistisches Bundesamt Deutschland, 2002). Die Folgen von schweren Verkehrsunfällen gehen über ökonomische oder physische Schädigung weit hinaus. Im Vergleich zur hochentwickelten chirurgischen Versorgung ist die Psychotraumatologie nach Unfällen wenig entwickelt, obwohl bereits Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts psychische Folgen von Unfällen beschrieben wurden.
