Zusammenfassung

Phenole sind Verbindungen, die an einem aromatischen Ringsystem eine oder mehrere OH-Gruppen tragen. Auch funktionelle Derivate der Phenole — Methylether, Ester oder Glykoside — werden zu den Phenolen (im weiteren Sinne) gerechnet. Der Häufigkeit ihres Vorkommens, der strukturellen Mannigfaltigkeit und auch der funktionellen Bedeutung nach — man denke an das Lignin als einen integrierenden Bestandteil des Pflanzenkörpers — bilden die Phenole eine der wichtigsten Stoffgruppen im Pflanzenreich. Da Phenole mannigfaltigster Struktur in jedem Pflanzenextrakt enthalten sind, stellen sie in der pharmazeutischen Analytik wichtige Leitstoffe dar: Wahrscheinlich hat jede Pflanzenart ein sie charakterisierendes Phenolmuster.
