Zusammenfassung
Von einer HIV-Infektion sprechen wir, wenn bei einem Kind eine Infektion mit HIV-1 oder HIV-2 sicher nachgewiesen wurde. AIDS (acquired immune deficiency Syndrome) liegt dann vor, wenn bei nachgewiesener HIV-Infektion bestimmte AIDS-definierende Sekundärerkrankungen auftreten (opportunistische Infektionen, maligne Tumoren). Hat ein Kind einer HIV-infizierten Mutter in den ersten 18 Lebensmonaten HIV-Antikörper im Blut, ohne daß ein Virusnachweis gelingt, gilt es als HIV-exponiert.
