Zusammenfassung
Ursprünglich verstand man unter Alkaloiden aus Pflanzen isolierte organische Basen; Morphin war das erste Alkaloid, das rein und in kristallisierter Form erhalten wurde (Sertürner, 1806). Zwanzig Jahre später wurde es bereits industriell gewonnen (Merck). Nachdem man allerdings Alkaloide auch aus Tieren, Mikroorganismen und Menschen isolierte, wurde der Begriff “Alkaloide” allgemein auf natürliche basische N-Heterocyclen ausgedehnt. Nach der Herkunft der Alkaloide wurden die einzelnen Substanzen ursprünglich entsprechend der botanischen Klassifikation bezeichnet, etwa als Solanum-Alkaloide, Papaver-Alkaloide, An-gostura-Alkaloide, Lobelia-Alkaloide usw. Nachdem die chemischen Strukturen dieser Verbindungen bekannt waren und besonders nachdem die Biosynthesewege aufgeklärt werden konnten, wurde dann auch die chemische Klassifikation eingeführt, z.B. Pyridin-, Chinolin- oder Steroid-Alkaloide. Beide Bezeichnungsarten finden sich heute nebeneinander in der Literatur. Eine weitere Differenzierung dieser Verbindungsklasse wird nach deren Biosynthese vorgenommen.
