Abstract
Modulation techniques are widely used in physical experiments. Modulation methods, employing selective amplifiers and/or lock-in detectors, are successfully used in NMR and ESR techniques, in studies of the Hall effect and I-V characteristics, in photometry, and in many other cases. However, the modulation principle was used for the first time just for measuring specific heat, many years before it was accepted as a tool for other physical measurements.
