Summary
On the basis of recent statistical data, the importance of brief psychotherapy, hypnosis, and autogenic training in today's medical services is stressed. At the same time, the author underlines the need for a rather cautious and sensitive presentation of hypnosis to hospital staffs in order to avoid aversive reactions.
The benefits patients may draw from brief psychotherapy and/or hypnosis both prior to and after their discharge from hospital are described.
