Zusammenfassung

Picorna-Viren sind kleine RNS-haltige Viren (pico=klein, ma=Ribonukleinsäure) mit einem Durchmesser von etwa 30 nm. Sie sind weltweit verbreitet und rufen die gefürchtete Kinderlähmung, Meningitis, Herz- und Skelettmuskelerkrankungen, Exantheme und Hepatitis hervor. Sie haben sich aus einem gemeinsamen Vorfahren entwickelt und weisen viele Gemeinsamkeiten, aber auch viele Unterschiede auf.
