Zusammenfassung
Streptokokken bilden eine Gattung (Streptococcus) nichtbeweglicher, nichtsporenbildender, grampositiver Kokken, die sich in Ketten oder Paaren lagern (Abb. 2.1). Die meisten Streptokokken vermehren sich sowohl unter aeroben als auch unter anaeroben Bedingungen. Die Katalase- und die Oxidase-Reaktion fallen negativ aus. Nitrat wird nicht reduziert; Kohlenhydrate werden unter Milchsäurebildung fermentativ abgebaut. Streptokokken sind typische Schleimhautparasiten.
