Dynamic Model Reduction Methods

Abstract

The combining of unreduced finite element models (FEMs) of subsytems to a dynamic FEM of the complete system (satellite or launcher) will in general result in a finite element model with many degrees of freedom (dofs) and therefore difficult to handle. The responsible analyst, to manipulate the total dynamic model, will ask for a reduced dynamic FEM description of the subsystem and will prescribe the allowed number of ‘left’ dynamic dofs of the reduced dynamic model. The reduced dynamic model is, in general, a modal description of the system involved.
