Zusammenfassung
Die Thromboembolie der Lunge ist ein sehr häufiges Ereignis, das zu oft nicht diagnostiziert wird. Obduktionsbeobachtungen geben eine Häufigkeit von 10–15%, bei Fällen chronischer Herzinsuffizienz bis um 30% an, wovon wiederum in 40% der Fälle die Lungenembolie als Todesursache zu werten ist. In einer neueren Studie über 231 Autopsien war die Lungenembolie mit 61% die häufigste klinisch nicht erwartete Diagnose (Rao u. Rangwala 1990).
