Zusammenfassung
Kognitive Diagnosemethoden kamen auf, als behaviorale Behandlungsformen begannen, auch die Modifikation von Gedanken zu berücksichtigen. Die grundlegende Arbeit von Donald Meichenbaum (Meichenbaum, 1977) über die Modifikation kognitiven Verhaltens basierte auf der Idee, daß das Verändern von Gedanken eine wichtige Komponente bei der Modifikation von Verhalten darstellt. Diese Aufnahme kognitiver Komponenten in die Behandlung warf folgende Fragen auf:

Verändern sich Gedanken wirklich während des Therapieverlaufes?

Welche Rolle spielen Gedanken beim Auftreten, bei der Aufrechterhaltung und bei der Heilung fehlangepaßten Verhaltens und emotionaler Störungen?
