Zusammenfassung
Begriffsbestimmungen: Unter Kavitation („Hohlraumbildung”) versteht man die teilweise Verdampfung von Flüssigkeit in einem durchströmten System. Ein dampferfüllter Hohlraum entsteht, wenn der statische Druck in einer Strömung infolge Übergeschwindigkeiten örtlich auf den Sättigungsdruck des Fluids absinkt, so daß etwas Flüssigkeit verdampft und in einem kleinen Gebiet des Strömungsraumes eine Zweiphasenströmung entsteht. Der Dampf kondensiert schlagartig („implodiert”), sobald er stromabwärts in Zonen transportiert wird, wo der statische Druck den Sättigungsdruck wieder übersteigt. Mit zunehmendem Ausmaß der Kavitationszonen, bzw. der Gebiete mit Zweiphasenströmung, werden Förderhöhe und Wirkungsgrad der Pumpe beeinträchtigt, Lärm und Schwingungen angeregt und u.U. Bauteile durch Kavitationserosion beschädigt. Bei Verwendung des Begriffes „Kavitation” ist zwischen der „Kavitationsströmung” — d.h. dem Auftreten lokaler Gebiete mit Zweiphasenströmung — und „Kavitationserosion” bzw. Kavitationsschäden zu unterscheiden.
