Zusammenfassung

Asthma ist lange Zeit als Synonym für akut rezidivierende Atemnot oder Dyspnoe verwendet worden. Die Ursache des Asthmas wurde im 19. Jahrhundert von vielen Autoren im Nervensystem gesehen (Asthma nervosum). Später rückte die primär psychische oder psychosomatische Ätiologie in den Vordergrund. In der Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts (Ciba guest Symposium) wurde die cardiale Atemnot (Asthma cardiale) von der bronchialen (Asthma bronchiale) getrennt. Heute hat die molekulare und gentechnische Forschung das Asthma eindeutig als lokale, genetisch determinierte und transplantierbare entzündliche Bronchialbaumerkrankung erkannt.
