Zusammenfassung
Die Gruppe der androgen wirksamen Sexualsteroide umfaßt alle C19-Steroide. Sie werden in den Nebennierenrinden und Gonaden gebildet und entstehen auch in der Peripherie durch Umwandlung aus Androgenvorstufen. Die biosynthetischen Vorstufen der Androgene sind Cholesterol bzw. Pregnenolon. Eine weitgehend normale Androgensekretion, -metabolisierung und — Wirkung sind Voraussetzung für die Entwicklung und Differenzierung der sekundären Geschlechtsmerkmale und -organe sowie für die normalen Fortpflanzungsfunktionen bei Mann und Frau.
