Abstract
The most important source of the German laws pertaining to residency issues is the Aliens Act [“Ausländergesetz” (AuslG)]. This legal code addresses two types of residency: permanent and temporary. Throughout this chapter, the term “residency” will be used to refer alternately to permanent or temporary stays in Germany. Its exact meaning can be derived from the context.
