Wenn Menschen nur gemeinsam bestimmte Ziele erreichen können, dann schließen sie sich zu Gruppen und Organisationen zusammen, um ihre Einzelaktivitäten zu koordinieren und so die erwünschten Effekte zu potenzieren. Diese Koordinationsaufgabe wird meist im Zuge der Rollen- und Funktionsdifferenzierung in Gruppen und Organisationen von einzelnen Personen (Führern) oder spezifischen Gruppen (Führungsteams) übernommen.
