Zusammenfassung
Autoimmunität ist definiert als eine spezifische, adaptive humorale und/oder zelluläre Immunantwort gegen körpereigene Antigene [Selbst(Auto)-antigene]. Autoimmunkrankheiten sind klinisch definiert als chronische, nichtinfektiöse Entzündungszustände, die entweder zur lokalisierten Organdestruktion (z.B. Typ-I-Diabetes, Hashimoto-Thyreoiditis) oder zu systemischen Krankheitsbildern des rheumatischen Formenkreises führen [z.B. systemischer Lupus erythematosus (SLE), Rheumatoide Arthritis] (Peter u. Pichler 1996). Serologisch sind Autoimmunkrankheiten charakterisiert durch den Nachweis hochtitriger Autoantikörper des IgG- und IgA-Isotyps gegen definierte Autoantigene. Immungenetisch finden sich regelmäßig Assoziationen mit bestimmten MHC-Haplotypen (Schwarz 1996).
