Abstract
During studies of the solubility of rare earth molybdates M2(MoO4)3 · n H2O with M = La to Er and Yb in weakly acidic aqueous MCI3 solutions the formation of soluble complexes [MMoO4]+ has been observed [1]. These complexes form in an initial reaction when an aqueous solution of ammonium paramolybdate is added to an aqueous MCI3 solution in the concentration range Mo: M<1.5 for M = La, Sm, Er, and Yb. With increasing paramolybdate concentrations the M2(MoO4)3·nH2O molybdates (see below) precipitate [2]. In basic medium the compounds M(OH)MoO4· n H2O are formed (p. 249) [3, 4]. The stability constants K, determined by conductivity measurements at pH 5.5 to 6.5, 25°C, and an ionic strength of 0.0012, are given in the following table (Std. Dev. = standard deviation) [1]:
