Zusammenfassung
Die Altersbestimmung menschlicher Embryonen war notwendigerweise so lange unsicher, als Unklarheit über den Entwicklungsbeginn bestand. Noch bis zu Beginn unseres Jahrhunderts herrschte die Vorstellung vor, daß die Ovulation mit der Menstruation zusammenfalle oder ihr sehr bald folge [Grosser 1914, Triepel 1914, 1914/15]. Die jahrzehntelang umstrittenen Feststellungen von Knaus [1929] und Ogino [1930] über die Ovulation in der Mitte des menstruellen Zyklus können heute, nach genauerer Analyse aller zyklischen Veränderungen im weiblichen Organismus, als mit 14 (±2) Tage vor dem Beginn der nächsten Regelblutung präzisiert werden. Die Ovulation beim Menschen ist hormonal gesteuert. Durch Kohabitation provozierte Ovulationen kommen als Regelfall beim Menschen nicht vor. Damit bleibt im natürlichen Ablauf der eigentliche Entwicklungsbeginn weiterhin unsicher.
