Abstract

Eugene Wigner and Alvin Weinberg, it seems to me, are two of a rapidly diminishing number of scientific geniuses who not only led their colleagues in finding a way to end the most terrible of all wars (World War II) in the 1940s, but also who, since then, have worked tirelessly and unselfishly to help us understand the implications of nuclear war — if also of nuclear technology for humanitarian ends.
