Zusammenfassung
Die Mundschleimhaut ist je nach Region sehr unterschiedlich aufgebaut, weshalb zur Beurteilung einer Biopsie die genaue Lokalisation angegeben werden muss. Lippen- und Wangeninnenseiten haben ein breites, nicht verhornendes Plattenepithel und eine lockere Tunica mucosa. Sie enthält eine wechselnde Anzahl kleiner muköser Speicheldrüsen, die vor allem aufgrund ihres Muzingehaltes, weniger auch sekretorischer Immunglobuline, Lysozym u. a. Faktoren für die Infektabwehr und Zahngesundheit von großer Bedeutung sind; weiterhin haben sie die Funktion der Mundschleimhautlubrifikation und ermöglichen so Kauen, Schlucken und Sprechen. Mundboden, Zungenunterseite und weicher Gaumen sind ebenfalls von lockerem, nichtverhornendem, jedoch dünnerem Plattenepithel überzogen. Gingiva propria und vorderer harter Gaumen zeigen die nicht verschiebliche mastikatorische Mukosa mit para- oder orthokeratotischer Verhornung auf straffem Bindegewebe. Der Gaumen enthält ebenfalls kleine Speicheldrüsen, deren Mündungen als kleine Pünktchen sichtbar sind. Die Zunge ist ein beweglicher Muskelkörper, dessen Dorsalseite das spezialisierte papillentragende Epithel aufweist. Am Zungenrand hinten finden sich beidseits die Papillae foliatae, die bei starker Ausprägung des lymphatischen Gewebes klinisch als laterale Zungentonsillen sichtbar sind.
