Häufigkeit und Art erfolgreich behandelter Herzverletzungen in Friedenszeiten weisen geographische Unterschiede und Beziehungen zur Bevölkerungsstruktur auf. In den Vereinigten Staaten sind Stich- und Schußverletzungen sehr häufig, wohingegen in Europa das stumpfe Herztrauma im Zusammenhang mit Verkehrsunfällen zunehmend an Bedeutung (Beall et al., 1972) gewinnt.
