Zusammenfassung
Während beim Mann die Androgene die Steuerung der Reproduktion (d. h. Reifung der Spermatozoen) sowie die Ausprägung der sekundären männlichen Geschlechtsmerkmale steuern, ist die genaue Bedeutung der Androgene für die Frau ungeklärt. Eine vermehrte Bildung von Androgenen führt bei der Frau zu zahlreichen unerwünschten Wirkungen hinsichtlich des menstruellen Zyklus, des Stoffwechsels sowie der Haut und deren Anhangsgebilde mit der Entstehung von Hirsutismus, Akne, Seborrhö und Alopezie. Bei tumorbedingt stark erhöhten Serumandrogenen kann es zu einer Defeminisierung bzw. Virilisierung kommen, die sich als Klitorishypertrophie, Hypoplasie der Mammae, Vermännlichung der Muskelstruktur, tiefer Stimme usw. äußert (Tabelle 15.1).
