Zusammenfassung

In Deutschland gibt es keine gesicherten Zahlen über die Häufigkeit der Ehesterilität. Allgemein wird angenommen, daß Sterilität und Infertilität aller Paare in den letzten 2 Jahrzehnten von 8 auf etwa 15% zugenommen haben, ähnlich wie eine epidemiologische Studie in Großbritannien zeigte (Templeton et al. 1990). Es gibt Anhaltspunkte dafür, daß mit zunehmender Schadstoffbelastung aus der Umwelt und aus anderen Quellen Entgiftungsmechanismen des Organismus versagen, so daß als ein deutliches Alarmzeichen einer zunehmenden Umweltvergiftung möglicherweise die Häufigkeit ungewollter Kinderlosigkeit ansteigt.
