Abstract

Along with nitrates and β-blockers, calcium antagonists have, in recent years, become increasingly important for treating angina pectoris (Becker et al. 1980; Ebner 1977; Enenkel and Spiel 1980; Johnson et al. 1981 ; Kober et al. 1981). There are appreciable differences between the individual calcium antagonists as regards chemical structure and profile of action (Kaufmann 1977). This trial was to establish whether oral administration of the calcium antagonist gallopa-mil (D 600), a verapamil derivative, modifies the ischaemic depression of the ST-segment in the ECG during exercise. This was done in an open pilot study.
