Abstract
Evergreen tree. Leaves opposite, coarsely dentate, rusty velvety beneath; hairs unicellular. Inflorescences terminal, tricussately thyrso-paniculate, many-flowered, prophylls present; flowers minute, 4-merous, hermaphroditic, or rarely plants dioecious; calyx tube turbinate with open, triangular lobes; petals (sub)valvate, triangular-ovate; stamens 4, alternipetalous; filaments subulate; anthers cordate at base, introrse, longitudinally dehiscing; disk epigynous, broad, 4-angled, densely barbate; ovary inferior, 4-locular; ovules 1 per locule, with ventral raphe and micropyle directed upwards; style short, subconical, with 4-lobed stigma. Fruits drupaceous, small, subglobose, 4-locular, 4-seeded, areolate at apex, crowned by the calyx, eventually dehiscing; seeds elongate-oblong, subcylindric, with elongate embryo in copious endosperm. n = 13.
