Abstract
Small trees or shrubs. Leaves alternate, petiolate, entire, glabrous, with pinnate venation, aromatic. Stipules broad, enclosing vegetative buds, caducous. Inflorescences terminal thyrsoids with dichasial partial inflorescences. Pedicels with triangular, caducous prophylls. Flowers actinomorphic, hermaphrodite, hypogynous. Sepals 5(6), free, imbricate, the outer smaller, concave, with peltate glands on the dorsal surface and the pedicels, persistent until the beginning of fruit development. Petals 5(6), free, imbricate, broadly obovate, subequal, glabrous. Stamens numerous, distinct; filaments filiform; anthers basifixed, dithecal, longitudinally dehiscent. Gynoecium 2(–4)-carpellate, on a short elevation of the receptacle; ovarial portions of the carpels distinct, covered with warty projections and peltate glands; style gynobasic, undivided, glabrous, persistent in fruit; stigma entire, not differentiated from the style; ovules basal, ascendent, anatropous, usually 2 per locule. Mericarps 1(–4), usually 1-seeded, distinct, indehiscent; pericarp warty, thin, leathery, flexible when fresh. Seeds exalbuminous, embryo with thick cotyledons.
