Abstract

Hypertrophic scars and keloids are benign cutaneous lesions produced by an overgrowth of dense fibrous tissue for uncontrolled synthesis and deposition of dermal collagen. The former remain confined to the site of the primary lesion, the latter invade the surrounding skin extending for variable distances beyond the site of injury.
