Abstract

The quest for information has marked the entire history of mankind. Free access to information is a prerequisite for freedom in the widest sense: personal freedom, freedom of choice, freedom of communication, and indeed everything that is understood under the notion of democracy. Modern information and communication technology has dramatically changed the world, significantly affecting all areas of human existence. This global technology is the driving force changing the industrial society into an information and knowledge-based society.

So perhaps the best thing to do is to stop writing Introductions and get on with the book.
