Abstract
The purpose of environmental standards is to prevent exposure to harmful effects from pollutants. Up to now, the vast majority of environmental standards have dealt with exposures to individual substances, and exposures to two or more substances are only rarely taken into account. Combined exposures exacerbate the already complex issue of assessing exposure to harmful substances and thus deserve special attention.
