Abstract
Supplying water of suitable quality to people is a difficult and permanent problem in many tropical countries. The usual background of difficulties to be faced is
-
a limited resource of surface or phreatic water during the dry season;
-
a high content of suspended matter leading to clarification problems during the rain season;
-
bacterial contamination, which can occur because of uncontrolled discharges of wastewater or waste disposal.
