Abstract
In the last decades, the environmental condition of the area surrounding the city of Santa Fe de Bogotá, called the Sabana, has deteriorated due to the contamination of the Bogotá River that receives, directly and through its tributaries like the Tunjuelito river, industrial and domestic discharges from the surrounding rural area and from the capital that has an urban population of more than six million inhabitants.
