Abstract

At the start of the nineties it became clear that saving data for decision-making purposes had to be done in a different way to that for operational processing purposes (Becker/Priemer 1994), and so the term “Data Warehouse” was coined (also called “Information Warehouse”). This describes an “orderly, cross-function and cross-company data collection that is aimed at business objects, for example, customers over the period of several years” (Martin/von Maur 1997).
