Zusammenfassung
Die Elektrostatik behandelt Phänomene, die durch ruhende elektrische Ladungen verursacht werden. Die ersten, allerdings noch wenig quantitativen Erfahrungen mit elektrostatischen Effekten wurden schon vor mehr als 2000 Jahren in Griechenland mit Bernstein (griechisch: „elektron“) gemacht, der sich beim Reiben elektrisch auflädt. Heute gibt es neben detailliertem Grundlagenwissen eine große Zahl technischer Anwendungen der Elektrostatik, von denen eine kleine Auswahl vorgestellt wird. Trotzdem sind noch eine Reihe fundamentaler Fragen offen, von denen einige in Band 3 und 4 dieses Lehrbuchs diskutiert werden.
