Abstract

Evidences by Vereshchagin (1959b) suggest that musk ox was exterminated from Taymyr by the first explorers during the 17th century. In 1947, the species was re-introduced into the Taymyr Peninsula (lower part of Bikada River) from Banks Island (Canada), and in 1975 into Taymyr and Wrangel Island from Nunivak Island (USA, Alaska) (Uspensky 1976, 1984). In 1995–2000, ca. 70 musk ox from Taymyr were introduced into Yakutia (Anabar River, Ust-Lensky Nature Reserve, Indigirka River).
