Abstract
Phagocytosis is an essential feature of protozoan feeding and it is the subject of both this and the following section. Some protozoa acquire additional energy and materials for growth by other mechanisms, such as the uptake of dissolved materials, which will be discussed at the end of this section, while symbiotic relations with photosynthetic organisms will be discussed in Section 6.2.
