Abstract

Diffusion is usually studied in the context of Brownian motion. However, it is a paradigm for dissipative behavior in a variety of physical systems, e.g., spin diffusion in a magnet, hydrodynamic motion in a fluid, interstitial movement in a defect lattice, atomic jumps in a solid via a vacancy mechanism, rotational diffusion of macromolecules in fluids, etc. A large number of diffusion processes and their application to spectroscopy have been discussed by Dattagupta [1].
