Zusammenfassung

Wörtlich übersetzt bedeutet Epidemiologie „Lehre von dem, was über das Volk kommt“. In früheren Jahren bezog sich das Aufgabengebiet dieser Disziplin vorwiegend auf die Analyse der Ausbreitung von Seuchen. Die Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) hat die Tätigkeitsbereiche aktuell präzise definiert. Die Epidemiologie beschreibt gemäß dieser Definition die Verteilung

  • von Krankheiten,

  • von physiologischen Variablen und

  • von sozialen Krankheitsfolgen

  • in verschiedenen menschlichen Bevölkerungsgruppen.
