Abstract

The phase diagram shown in Fig. 120 was produced from thermal analysis, metallographic and X-ray diffraction data. The system has four intermetallic compounds: U4Rh3, U3Rh4, U3Rh5, and URh3. One eutectic occurs at ~865 °C and 24.5 at% rhodium and a second at 1393 °C and 87 at% rhodium. The maximum solid solubility of rhodium in uranium is ~8 at% and ~3 at% of uranium in rhodium. A solid-state transformation occurs in the compound U3Rh4 at ~720 °C; peritectics occur at 1450 and 1550 °C and the melting point of URh3 is ~1700 °C [1].
